Life Groups

Sundays 5:00-6:00 PM

Youth Life Groups begin on February 21st!

We have life groups specifically geared for our Ortega Youth! Life Groups are the way we make a big church feel small. Groups meet across the area and simply do life together; laughing, playing games, fellowshipping, supporting each other, and growing in all seasons of life. We encourage you to get connected with a life group to build new friendships and grow in your walk with Christ.

Retreats

Spring 2021 Retreats

spring retreat presentation

Who: Current 7th-12th Graders
When: April 23-25, 2021
Where: Honey Creek Retreat Center, Waverly, Georgia
What: This retreat is designed to help students renew their faith and love in Christ. Our students will get away from the distractions of home to look at their relationship with others, to look at God, and their response to Him, especially through the person of Jesus Christ. Each day, we'll have interactive teaching, games, food (my personal favorite) and free time to enjoy all Honey Creek has to offer like: kayaking/canoeing, nature trails, basketball, volleyball, disc golf and fishing (must bring your own fishing equipment).

What do we bring? We will be staying in cabins, with beds and bathrooms. Students must bring twin bedding and pillows, toiletries, towels, Bible, pen/pencil, and enough clothing for three days. Skateboards, fishing poles, sports equipment, balls, and musical instruments are encouraged.

Cost: The cost of this trip is $150. This includes housing, meals, transportation, kayak/canoe rentals, a t-shirt and more! Optional: $ for camp store. Spots are limited! A $25 deposit is due to reserve your spot. The remaining balance is due by April 1st. You must register by April 1st.

Arrival/Departure: We will be leaving OUMC on Friday, April 23rd. Students should arrive at the church at 4:45 PM. We will return on Sunday, April 25th in the morning. Exact time TBD.

Covid-19 Guidelines: All students will have a temperature and symptom check before departing on the trip and again each day on the trip. During the trip, if your student develops symptoms related to Covid-19, they will be isolated and a parent or other approved adult must be able to come pick up their student from the camp which is one hour away.

Summer 2021 Retreats

1936122 125309702731 3427009 n

Who: Current 7th-12th graders

When: June 19th-26th

Where: Troutdale, Virginia

What: A summer hiking trip in the Appalachian Mountains with Wilderness Trail. No experience necessary! Our students spend time at the Wilderness Trail property in fellowship, worship & games before heading out on a 5-day backpacking journey on the Appalachian Trail. WT believes that amazing things happen when you take people out of their comfort zone and place them in the beauty of God's creation. We have seen that incredible growth begins with first letting go. As we let go of the worries and thoughts of our daily lives we are then able to begin looking outward.

Cost: The cost is $305 including almost everything you need, such as: backpacking equipment (tent, pack, etc.), meals at the property, meals and some snacks while hiking, and a souvenir T-shirt. Students should bring money for three meals on the road. A $75 deposit is due to reserve your spot. If your deposit is not made by February 28th, you will lose your spot. The remaining balance is due by June 1st. If you need financial assistance, please contact Kirby. Did you work in the pumpkin patch in 2020? If so, register and then email Kirby to use your pumpkin earnings toward the cost of your trip!

Arrival/Departure:  Youth should arrive at OUMC at 8:30 AM on Saturday, June 19th. We will be leaving Jacksonville at 9:00 AM. We will return to Jacksonville on Saturday, June 26th at 5:00 PM

Covid-19 Guidelines: Wilderness Trail has set their own guidelines and precautions for our students and adults to adhere to while on the trail and at the property. Please click here to view those guidelines. In addition, each student and adult must have a negative test for COVID-19 before attending the trip. We also strongly encourage that the student adhere to strict social distancing and avoid unnecessary gatherings between getting tested and the start of the trip. Currently, Jacksonville has many locations offering free rapid testing with same day results and free PCR testing with 2-3 day results. I understand that this will be inconvenient for some, but it is the best method to ensure that we keep our students and adults safe while travelling long distances together in the vans and throughout the week. I will continue to monitor the availability of free Covid-19 testing in Jacksonville. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to Kirby at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  or by calling 904-772-4239.

Recovery has been a long process with cleaning up debris, removing trees, mucking out flooded homes and repairing damage. Our group will work alongside the local church to aid in the recovery efforts.

Cost: The cost of this trip is $445. This includes meals while in Lake Charles, housing, transportation, tools needed, free day activities in New Orleans and a t-shirt. Volunteer Opportunities

Wednesday Night Volunteers

Wednesday nights are a night for youth to come and have fun and hear a message relevant to what's going on in their lives today. Our adult counselors help in a number of ways, such as, setting-up/breaking down, running the games, facilitating discussion questions in small groups, etc. If you want to be a part of our Wednesday night programming, contact Kirby!

Life Group Leaders

We need adult leaders for our Youth Life Groups! The purpose of Life Groups is for our students to find community and develop authentic, godly relationships. Students learn to trust, support and pray for one another as they study scripture and discuss their everyday challenges. If you are interested, contact Kirby!
